Career Transition

In 2023, I took a step back to pursue another area of interest for me - Executive Coaching. The following chronicles my career transition.

September 2023-January 2025

Coaching Certifications

  • NYU School of Professional Studies, Executive Coaching:  NYU SPS offers four 12-week long courses ranging from the Foundations of Coaching through Organizational Leadership coaching.  received my certification upon successfully completing 200 educational hours, as well as over conducting 150 paid coaching hours (as of January 2025).

  • Gallup StrengthFinders Certification:  StrengthFinders is a coaching tool, developed by Gallup, where users get to understand their inherent strengths and how to maximize them. I received my Gallup StrengthFinders certification upon the completion of a 4-day intensive course, and have the skills and tools to facilitate both individual and/or team growth.

  • International Coaching Federation ACC Credential: The ICF is the global standard for the coaching profession, and has a very strict set of requirements to become a credentialed executive coach.  I’m currently in the process of obtaining my ACC Credential, and should have it by the end of March 2025.

Mentorship

  • The Lantern Network:  The Lantern Network is a non-profit created to help young black college graduates find mentors in the professional world. I’ve had the pleasure of mentoring a young man in New York for nearly two years and have watched him grow - he’s now earning his Master’s at a university in London.

  • thinkLA:  thinkLA is the “ad club” for the Los Angeles market. As part of their mentorship program, I’ve mentored four individuals, of all levels and backgrounds.

  • LA Works:  LA Works is a non-profit in Los Angeles who help youth in underserved communities with basic life skills. I’ve led several weekend workshops, teaching high school students on how to apply for, and interview for jobs.

  • Culver City High School: I created and ran a 6-week lunch hour program where I taught juniors and seniors about the ad industry, how to create an ad campaign, what types of jobs are available. As part of this curriculum, the students had to prepare, present and execute an ad campaign for two local Culver City businesses.

Board Director

  • Pencils for Kids, Inc.: PFK has been delivering school supplies, backpacks, uniforms and materials to children in underserved communities in Bali, Myanmar, Thailand and Mexico. As part of the Executive Board, I’ve been responsible for helping develop the long term strategy to help PFK secure corporate underwriting partners. Additionally, I was privileged to participate in the Thailand Mission trip in May 2024.

  • Loving Way Foundation: Loving Way Foundation was created to bring awareness of the issue of traumatic brain injury for babies, as a result of severe child abuse. My role on the board is to help provide marketing and advertising guidance for brand efforts, as well as individual events.

Caregiver

  • Elderly Parents: As the oldest child, I had the responsibility of helping my parents move from their home of 50 years into a senior living facility. This included finding the new location, renting out our family home, taking over financial responsibilities and helping navigate how to deal with Alzheimer’s Disease.
